For the [[2012]] Valentine's Day, American Greetings released two different sets of boxed cards. Although the cards varied by number per set, box size & artwork, and foil / plain, almost all of the artwork and slogans were recycled between the two, with American Greetings simply mixing and matching to make "different" cards. In that sense, the two are practically the same product.

For the 2012 Valentine's Day, American Greetings released three different sets of boxed cards. However, due to the extreme amount of recycled artwork and slogans, all three are little more than variants of one another.

32 Valentines

The discount set (in that it actually appeared in "everything's a dollar" stores), this set contains 32 assorted cards, with each card depicting a character and what is supposed to be a pithy saying. The 32 cards represent eight different cards, with four of each card to a box; they are packed as four sheets containing one each of the eight designs. This box was the smaller of the two, and contained artwork of both Optimus Prime and Bumblebee on the front.

Included cards and their sayings:

(teacher's card)
  • Autobot Symbol - "Let's Team Up, Valentine!"
  • Decepticon Symbol - "Have An Epic-Sized Valentine's Day"

Also included in the set is a 35-count sticker sheet. This sheet contains two images of Optimus Prime, two images of Bumblebee, two images of Sentinel Prime, two images of Megatron, the Autobot symbol, the Decepticon symbol, and a stylized "TF"; each image is repeated at least once.

30 Embossed Foil Valentines

The higher-end set, meaning that it was found in such places as HEB Grocery, this batch contained seven sheets of four cards apiece and two teacher's cards; all cards were embossed in foil, making them reflecive and giving them a limited amount of texture. This set also included the exact same sticker sheet as the above set. Additionally, the box for this set was much larger and featured a solo Optimus Prime.

Included cards and their sayings:

Autobot Symbol Batch (four sheets)

  • Optimus Prime - "Let's Team Up, Valentine!"
(artwork from the discount set "Power Up!" card; slogan from the discount set Autobot Symbol card)
  • Autobot Symbol - "Have An Epic-Sized Valentine's Day!"
(artwork from the discount set Autobot Symbol card; slogan from the discount set Decepticon Symbol card)
  • Optimus Prime - "Stand Strong, Valentine!"
(artwork from the discount set "Mobilize" card; slogan from an discount set Bumblebee card)
  • Bumblebee - "Bee My Valentine!"
(slogan directly copied from discount set; artwork from the discount set "Stand Strong" card)

Decepticon Symbol Batch (three sheets)

  • Sentinel Prime - "Valentine, Code Red!"
(exact same as discount set)
  • Decepticon Symbol - "Decode Some Fun, Valentine!"
(same artwork as discount set Decepticon Symbol card)
  • Megatron - "Rule Valentine's Day!"
(exact same as discount set)
  • Bumblebee - "Power Up, Valentine!"
(artwork from discount set "Bee" card; slogan from second discount set Optimus Prime card)

Teacher Cards (one sheet)

  • Megatron - "You Rock The Universe, Valentine!"
(only card with original slogan *and* artwork)
  • Bumblebee - "Mobilize For Valentine Fun"
(slogan recycled for discount set teacher's card)

16 Valentines and 16 Mini Erasers

An alternate "deluxe" set, this batch, sold in retailers such as Target, contains two sheets of the exact same cards and the same front box artwork as the discount set, yet comes in a box the same size as the deluxe set and sold at roughly the same price point.

The reason for this is because, in lieu of the sticker sheet and additional 16 cards that the discount set had, this set has a white cardstock box that contains 16 red-and-blue swirl erasers arranged in two neat rows of four pairs. This would allow for an eraser to be given with the card rather than using one of the stickers to seal it.
