In 1957, Service Games and Rosen Enterprises merged and became SEGA. (Service Games). They became popular with a submarine simulator which became popular in Japan. In 1969, Rosen sold Sega to Gulf & Western Industries, but himself remained on as CEO of the Sega division. They prospered and in 1979 they took the company public. They manufactured home consoles from 1982-2004. In 1991 they created Sonic, who became their mascot and took the world by storm. They currently make third party games.
