At some point during the Great War, Chief Justice Tyrest selected Datum to wear the Magnus Armor and become an embodiment of the "immortal lawman" Ultra Magnus. His career as the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord (and his life) ended at the Battle for Hell's Point, facing down the Warrior's Elite themselves. He believed he had them backed into a corner as they couldn't shoot without damaging Megatron's shiny project, but didn't know that one of their guns was Megatron in disguise.
