Magnificus is a former Decepticon military counsul wrongly ousted by his rivals. He has teamed with the humanoid Ga'mede, a kindred spirit, and together the wreak a terrible revenge on those who wronged him.

Magnificus is a clone created by Shockwave (presumably from Perceptor.) He was never (that we saw) released from his cloning tube.
Dreamwave was clone-happy; Magnificus is probably not a clone in other continuities.
