The Maximals' hunt for the Origin Matrix reaches its goal.
Synopsis
Depth Charge has the computer get a fix on the location of the Origin Matrix and leaves a message for the other Maximals before leaving the ship. Heading to the coordinates, he finds a hatch in the ground, opens it and jumps in, only to find himself in the middle of a chamber with a fairly hefty security system aiming guns at him. Meanwhile, the other Maximals have returned to their ship and found a solution to their energy purifier problem—they can simply eat food. Though Prowl is worried about the fate of their missing purifier, the Maximals move out to assist Depth Charge. Unfortunately they're being spied on by Seawing, who notifies Megatron.
The Maximals reach Depth Charge in time to save him from the rogue security system. They blast the last of the guns, but when they move into the next chamber, they're promptly attacked by a cloud of bats. Urged on by the others, Ultra Magnus leaves them to fight the bats and goes into the next room where he indeed finds a matrix floating in light. As he approaches it, a hologram of Primus appears to dispense enigmatic exposition and inform Magnus that the matrix will decide if he is worthy to wield it. Apparently the matrix approves of him, as he returns to the others and uses it to scare off the bats. Moments later there's a rumbling sound and the roof explodes to reveal a giant saurian mech being piloted by Megatron.

"Did you get all that, Megatron?"

- —Seawing and Megatron keeping tabs on the Maximals.
"You have entered The Experiment, an exercise in chaos, the very nature of the universe."
"My soldiers... my friends are dying out there! We need the matrix to fight against the chaos. To restore order!"
"Chaos is the natural order of this universe, something you shall learn in time."
- —"Primus" and Ultra Magnus
Notes
Transformers references
- Depth Charge's reference to "sneaky death-faced creeps" suggests the Vok are involved in hiding the Origin Matrix.
- The hatch Depth Charge finds has a number of years engraved on the side of importance to Transformers.
- 2010 — the year season 3 of The Transformers is set in Japanese continuity.
- 2005 — the year The Transformers: The Movie is set.
- 1984 — the year the franchise began, and when the Autobots and Decepticons woke from their four million year sleep.
- 1887 — which appears to be a reference to Infestation 2: The Transformers.
- Ultra Magnus can't deal with that now.
- The cloud of bats appear to be loosely based on Sonar's beast mode.
- The use of a giant Primus hologram echoes the Vok using a similar hologram of Unicron in "Other Voices, Part 1".
- Megatron's giant mech resembles Gigastorm from Beast Wars II as was hinted in the previous issue.
