The exact nature of the Omniversal Matrix is not spelled out, though in context it sounds similar to the human mythical concepts of Asgard or Mount Olympus, the home and resting place of the gods.
According to the version of the Primus/Unicron backstory told by The Keeper, at the end of the era of the Gods, Primus could not take his place with the other of his pantheon in the Omniversal Matrix until he had completed his final task of defeating Unicron, last of the dark gods.
