Sadly, not the most poorly thought-out Decepticon superweapon of all time - but close.

Megatron's orbit disruptor cannon is, as you might imagine, a cannon which disrupts orbits. Any affected object will immediately cease orbiting its parent object and fly off into space. Its size means that the combiner Bruticus is required to operate it, although it also has, for reasons unknown, a control panel at human height. And a large button marked "OVER LOAD".

Fiction

The Transformers cartoon

Behold Megatron's plan:

It's at human height, it's clearly labeled in English, there are no security measures... about the only thing Megatron didn't do was come over and push the damn button himself.
  1. Use the orbit disruptor to knock Earth's Moon out of its orbit.
  2. Control the world's tides with a device Soundwave made.
  3. Flood one canyon.
  4. ???
  5. Nearly limitless power!

Unfortunately, before Megatron could put his plan into effect, there was a slight hitch in the form of the loss of Bruticus. After the combiner's defeat at the hands of Defensor, Swindle had sold off most of the rest of his team as parts. There was a short delay while Swindle was sent to recover the parts, with a bomb in his head as an incentive.

Once Bruticus was reassembled, Megatron decided to test-fire the orbit disruptor on Autobot Headquarters (despite it not being in orbit). The cannon was set up outside Autobot HQ, though more technical difficulties with Bruticus meant that the Decepticons were forced to fight the Autobots without it. During the battle, a human-controlled robot took control of the orbit disruptor cannon, turning it on the Decepticons before hitting the cannon's overload button. That pretty much spelled the end of Megatron's plan. B.O.T.

Notes

  • It's never really specified why Megatron specifically needs Bruticus to fire the cannon. If it's a size thing, he also has Devastator and Menasor. Not to mention the human-level control panel, which could be operated by Rumble or Frenzy.
