Victory

Running through 1989, the Victory manga acted as an alternate telling of the events of the Victory storyline (much like its precursor, the Masterforce manga, was to its TV counterpart), rather than a supplement to the television series. All ten issues were written by Masumi Kaneda and featured artwork by Ban Magami.

Whereas the Masterforce manga essentially told a variation of the anime's storyline, hitting the same basic plot points and employing characters in the same manner, the Victory manga is a different story. Masumi Kaneda originated the original concept for Victory, but the anime was headed up by Hiroyuki Hoshiyama, resulting in a notably different storyline from the manga, in which Kaneda explored some of the original ideas that he had for the series. As one might expect from the creator of Super-God Masterforce, Kaneda's manga featured a particularly pronounced human involvement, with additional characters not seen in the anime and returning characters from Masterforce coming together to create an armored team of warriors.

It could, however, also be thoroughly bizarre at times, including such oddities as Autobot and Deception leaders bickering like disgruntled PTA members and the first canonical appearance of female Decepticons.
