Predacon (RID)

The name or term "Predacon" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Predacon (disambiguation).

The Predacons are a faction of evil Cybertronians from the Robots in Disguise continuity family.

The Predacons are ruthless conquerers from the planet Cybertron, led by Megatron. When they reached Earth they found their old enemy Optimus Prime and his Autobots already there waiting for them. Megatron claims they ravaged many worlds in the past. How they managed this, since they arrived on Earth almost out of power and fairly hopelessly incompetent, is unknown. It is officially recorded that Slapper, Gas Skunk, and Dark Scream's main quality is being good for a laugh.

Eventually Megatron also gained the Decepticon sub-group as troops and a strong rivalry developed between the militaristic Decepticons and the bumbling Predacons.

There is a governing body on Cybertron called the Predacon Council, who seem to have some authority over Megatron.

There was a civil war on Cybertron, presumably (though not stated) against the Predacons. Template:Storyink

The Predacons spread throughout the galaxy under Megatron's command, ravaging planets for their energy; time and again, Optimus Prime's forces clashed with them. Battle Protocol! The Predacon Council, however, became aware that the mighty Fortress Maximus was located on Earth, and Megatron was ordered to take a strike team and seize control of the monolith. Surprise Attack! As a cover story, however, Megatron claimed to simply be after Earth's energy. Battle Protocol!

Unfortunately, the Predacons really did need energy and a combination of that, superior Autobot numbers, the inability to get information out of the captive Kenneth Onishi, and the sheer incompetence of Megatron's men saw them get stuck in a rut. Megatron's fortunes changed after he found and reprogrammed Autobot protoforms into the brand-new Decepticons The Decepticons, which left his old Predacon forces as second-class villains in fear of losing their jobs.

Notes

• According to the first Car Robots toy catalog, the Destrongers are "a rapidly evolved branch of the Destron race of Transformers, who as a whole are scattered across the whole universe and other dimensions". Evolution does not seem to have bred competence.
• The Japanese names of all the Destrongers begin with the letter G.
