Barrel Roll

Barrel Roll is a Mini-Con from the Unicron Trilogy continuity family or an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family (via the 2010 Transformers toyline).

Barrel Roll, while formerly a hothead, seems like a friendly and kind chap now. He's a believer in the concept of innate Autobot moral purity. While a bit distrustful of Decepticons in general, he also seems to be big on pan-faction "flier" solidarity. One hopes he has a good and long life!

IDW Generation 1 continuity

Early in the war, the Aerialbots responded to Optimus' rallying call for additional support against the Decepticons and fought against the Seekers in the battle that followed. After the rebirth of Cybertron and the reunification of the Transformer race, Barrel Roll readjusted his attitude, realizing that they were all in this mess together.

With the other Aerialbots, Barrel Roll was sent in to help manage an angry Decepticon crowd after the death of Senator Ratbat. When Dirge angrily stormed off after refusing to believe Starscream and the Autobots' spin on the situation, Barrel Roll ran after him, suggesting to him that, as fliers, they should stick together. Before the offer could be commented on, a massive and mysterious explosion engulfed Barrel Roll. Dirge was spared. Stick Together

Ask Vector Prime

Vector Prime first noticed Barrel Roll in Aurex 503.01 Gamma, but noted that a Micromaster version of him existed in Primax 209.0 Gamma, and at least some of his compatriots existed as full-sized Autobots and Decepticons in Primax 1005.19 Gamma. Ask Vector Prime, 24/7/2015

• Minicon 8 Pack (multipack, 2010)

Barrel Roll is a redeco of Classics Thunderwing, transforming into an F-14 Tomcat swing-wing fighter jet. He was only available as part of the European-market exclusive "Minicon 8 Pack" box set with Buckshot, Ironside, Iron Claw, Diveplane, Airlift, Heavy-Liftor, and Reachout.

This mold was also used to make Noise Effect, Boltflash, and Henkei! Henkei! Cybertron Sling.

Notes

• The Minicon[sic] 8 Pack gives no indication whatsoever what continuity these eight Mini-Cons hail from. In 2012, Barrel Roll was the first and thus far the only one to appear in the IDW Generation 1 continuity.
  • In 2015, the Facebook edition of Ask Vector Prime simultaneously established the pack members as Unicron Trilogy Mini-Cons and Generation 1 sometimes-Micromasters.
• The stock photography for Barrel Roll shows him with his canopy paint separated. The final product, however, makes the canopy solid black.
