Starscream seeks the mighty Con Skyquake. MECH tries to get their hands on the Dingus.
Synopsis
[edit]Optimus Under Threat
[edit]Following the apparent death of Megatron in a Spacebridge explosion, Starscream sets out to find Skyquake with Soundwave so he can win over the crew of the Nemesis. Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are also drawn to the area after they detect the Decepticon movements and arrive in time to find Skyquake rejecting Starscream as a leader. Though Optimus appeals to Skyquake to renounce the Decepticons, it turns into a brawl which is joined by William Fowler in his V-tol jet. Starscream is sent by Soundwave to investigate a signal and finds Megatron's body floating in the remains of the Spacebridge. He thereby misses the end of the battle, with the Autobots terminating Skyquake.
Also, back at base, Ratchet helps the kids with their science projects. That goes about as well as could be expected.
Off the Rails
[edit]After Fowler's V-tol is shot down while transporting the Dingus, he enlists the help of the Autobots to move it across country. The convoy is soon joined by agents of MECH, including Silas, who intend to seize the Dingus for their own uses. The Autobots duck into a railway tunnel temporarily before coming under attack by Decepticon troopers. Though Silas is intrigued by the giant robots who reveal themselves, he's more interested in the Dingus and starts pursuing the train the device was handed off to. Jack and Miko GroundBridge onto the train, but it's not until Optimus joins the pursuit that Silas is forced to call off his attack. Optimus manages to save the train, but MECH now has scans of him.
Featured characters
[edit](Numbers indicate order of appearance.)
Errors
[edit]- Miko's last name is misspelled "Makadi" on page 65.
Notes
[edit]- This book is a very faithful adaptation of "Masters & Students" and "Convoy" in prose, decorated with black-and-white screen captures from the episodes in question.
- Cliffjumper is unsurprisingly dropped from the profiles at the start of the book.
- Like the previous book, there is no author credited anywhere.
Differences with the episodes
[edit]- Starscream informs Skyquake that Megatron is deceased.
- Optimus's line "Excellent strategy, Bumblebee" is meant sarcastically, something that doesn't come over onscreen.
- Fowler notes that his plane doesn't have heat-seeking missiles.
- Some of Jack and Miko's dialog on the runaway train is missing, from Miko's line about going to the back of the train to Jack's "Don't read the will just yet".
