We'll go to very distant lands
The Adventure Team was a special mission force for the United States military. Created in 1963 by John F. Kennedy and led by Joseph Colton, the Adventure Team assembled mission specialists to tackle threats anywhere from the four corners of the Earth... and beyond.
The Adventure Team ceased operating in the late 1970s, but it served as the model for the later Counter-terrorist Group Delta which was named G.I. Joe in honor of Joe Colton.
Members include:
- Joe Colton (team leader)
- Mike Power, the Atomic Man
- Miles "Mayhem" Manheim
- Bulletman
- Tom Stone
Fiction
G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
An Adventure Team mission managed to piss off General Mihai and they fled across the Himalayas to escape. Unfortunately, en route they (and their pursuers) ran afoul of Cobra-La and their Decepticon allies. Mike Power was killed by Bludgeon and Colton taken prisoner. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: Black Horizon
IDW Generation 1 continuity
The Adventure Team met Britain's own hero, Action Man! They were later mothballed and replaced with G.I. Joe. Years later, during a strategic meeting, Joe Colton would reminisce to Miles Manheim about their days in the Adventure Team days during a meeting and grouse at having had to give it up for a desk job. Notes
- While Colton had appeared in the Marvel Comics Joe run (as a representation of the original G.I. Joe), the Adventure Team got their first fictional appearance in 2005 in "G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers: Black Horizon".
- Miles Mayhem née Manheim was never an Adventure Team member in the toyline (nor in the Joe line). He was added to the crew by IDW in order to tie the M.A.S.K. comic to G.I. Joe and made into the toyline's Sea Adventurer figure.
- The name “Tom Stone” comes from the British release of the “Adventurer” figure in the Action Man toyline.
