Because "Major Wedgie" would just be embarrassing.

Wedge Major is the Autobot bonded to Iota Supreme, an Omega Sentinel.

Iota Supreme's destruction occurred after he took heavy damage during the Battle for Omnitron, when he was terminated by Lugnut while being repaired. If Wedge was not destroyed along with his ship, he presumably still lost his connection to Iota Supreme. The AllSpark Almanac II
