Angry Birds Transformers (mobile game)/Challenge Events
From MediaWiki
The Challenge Events in the Angry Birds Transformers mobile game offered players the chance to unlock new characters, unique Accessories, and regular Accessories at a reduced "cost" by destroying key targets in special stages.
Challenge Event History
December 2015 ~ February 2016
- Halloween Competition (October 22 ~ November 9, 2015)
- In this first competition, the top three players that smashed the most pumpkins in regular stages each day would get Gems, while all other players would get 10000 Coins. Nemesis Prime Bird was not part of the competition, but was available as an in-app purchase during the Halloween season.
- Thanksgiving Challenge (November 20 ~ November 26, 2015)
- Unlock various prizes, including exclusive Pilgrim hats for select characters, through single-player challenges by popping flying pigs dressed as turkeys.
- After the event, several Black Friday deals popped up, from at-the-time cosmetic accessory bundles to discounted Gem packages to the Fire Bundle that contained the brand new character Rodimus at a low price!
- Holiday Challenges! (December 2015)
- The first ever Challenge Event combines the competition and challenges, and introduces Tokens and the battery system. Unlock Shockwave Pig and a host of holiday-themed Accessories for various other characters by destroying holiday-themed objects.
- Challenge in C-Minor (January 24 ~ January 31, 2016)
- Obtain Accessories for Soundwave, Energon Soundwave and Soundblaster, with exclusive Rumble Soundwave Accessory.
- Chinese New Year (February 6 ~ February 16, 2016)
- Unlock Epic Optimus Prime and China-themed accessories for various characters by blasting specific China-themed objects littering the battlefield.
- Encore in C-Minor (February 24 ~ February 27, 2016)
- A brief, three-day re-run of the "Carnage in C-Minor" event to let you take a swipe at Accessories you may have missed the first go around.
March ~ May 2016

- Boss Pig's head has been commandeered by the Eggbots and equipped with really powerful missiles. Defeating Boss Pig and flying Pigs earns points for Tokens. Prizes are various prior-existing accessories, with the new Autobird Silver as Windblade as the ultimate prize.
- After this event, there is a chance that Boss Pig could pop up uninvited and unexpected in future events, carrying a real risk if your characters aren't suited for taking him on.
- Pop as many Pigs as possible! Each day a new sub-set of Pig (balloon-head, flyers, etc) are worth 10 points a pop instead of the usual 1. All of the prizes are accessories for Lockdown and Energon Lockdown, including the event-exclusive Cannon and Rangefinder for regular Lockdown.
- This event brings some significant new changes: players can now take two characters instead of an Energonicon, and points are gained only through energon cubes (10 points per cube) and priority targets. Using a character from the currently shown bonus squad will increase your points at the end of a stage by the shown percentage, which could be 25% ,50%, 75%, 100%, or even 150%, depending on the squad. Bonus Squads are changed every four hours. As for the prizes, Shockwave was available again for those who may have missed him the first time around, along with a handful of non-exclusive accessories for the Target: 2006 squad.
- Tying in with Rovio's theatrical film, The Angry Birds Movie, this Challenge (along with all the other current Rovio games at the time) promotes the release of the big blockbuster with a new movie-themed app icon, loading screen, and point-earning smashable movie tickets and Billy signs. Prizes are a second chance at Epic Optimus and exclusive Coconut Helmets for Autobirds and Cowboy Hats for Deceptihogs.
June ~ August 1016
- There are some small changes for this event: two bonus squad characters are required to get the full point boost. For example, using one seeker will only give a 37% bonus, while using both seekers will give the full 75% bonus. Point values are now 1 per popped pig, 5 per Mortar Tower, and varied for priority targets. The prizes are Heatwave's unique accessories, but the real prize is the Gem packages that would be normally be only available as in-app purchases.
- Back to one Transformer with an Energonicon, with points obtained only from current challenge targets. The prizes are the new Acid Storm and his Nemesis and Kremzeek accessories.
- Second chance to get Windblade and her accessories. And the bonus Transformer point boost is back! Nothing new though.

- Not one, but three new Seeker characters are introduced, at a whopping 4800 tokens each, so good luck unlocking more than one without spending a lot of Gems. The player can try out Skywarp, Starscream, and Sunstorm in the events. Points are obtained from smashing Seeker color-coded blocks, and 10 points for each current challenge block.
Starting from this Challenge Event, missing Tokens could be bought with Gems, though the exchange rate would vary. Any Accessories available with Tokens in these events also had their normal Gem prices slashed 50% for the duration of the event.
- An event to get various Deceptihog accessories, including brand new Armada horns for both Megatron Pigs! Both a select Deceptihog and a select Energonicon give score bonuses.
- You've got the chance to earn Rodimus and his accessories in this event celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, along with Prowl and Bluestreak. (For those who haven't obtained them from missions, apparently.) Watch out for Unicron Pig shooting flaming piggies from his snout! Rodimus is available at all times as a "trial" character for free if not yet unlocked, and his health is automatically filled up after every run.
- After this Event, Unicron Pig could pop up unannounced in future Challenge Events, just like Boss Pig. In fact, you could get one right after the other! Ugh.
- The chance to unlock the new character Ratchet and his unique accessories, along with Arcee and Airachnid (if not unlocked through missions yet). Points are awarded for destroying a specific block type each day. Ratchet is available at all times as a "trial" character for free if not yet unlocked, and the best part is his health is automatically filled up after every run, since he's not in your stable yet! Abuse this!
September ~ November 2016
Just before the next Event, Daily Quests were introduced. These mini-challenges, 8 per day, could offer Tokens as prizes, giving you the chance to earn even more than the Event would allow normally per day... it's all the luck of the draw there, though, as to what the Quests are and how much, if any!
Oh, and also? At this point, they go absolutely nuts with the number of Events they run, sometimes with a mere 24 hours between the end of one's Token Exchange and the start of an all-new, un-advertised Event.
Oh, and also? At this point, they go absolutely nuts with the number of Events they run, sometimes with a mere 24 hours between the end of one's Token Exchange and the start of an all-new, un-advertised Event.
- Ride of the Valkyries (September 2 ~ September 6)
- Another chance to unlock Arcee and Airachnid, and their unique accessories, as well as another shot at Shockwave and his Accessories. Points are awarded for destroying a specific block type each day.
- Flight of the Bumblebee (September 8 ~ September 12)
- The focus is on Accessories for Bumblebee and High Octane Bumblebee, but also another chance to unlock Epic Optimus. The lack of downtime between events at this point has gotten ridiculous.
- Lock & Load (September 14 ~ September 21)
- Take a single character into the stage and shoot at specific targets. No Energonicons, no backups, but still a (hefty) bonus for using someone from the suggested Squad. The prize here is new character Ricochet and his accessories. Ricochet is available at all times as a "trial" character for free if not yet unlocked.
- The Blues Brothers (September 23 ~ September 28)
- Another chance to unlock Bluestreak and Prowl, as well as Windblade, and their unique accessories. Back to two swappable characters and an Energonicon, and blasting blocks of a target color for bonus points.
From this point forward, the scoring system changed slightly. Previously, you earned 1 point for every non-target Pig (and 5 for Mortar Towers), but from here on you also earned 1 point for every block destroyed and every piece of cyberformed scenery blasted. Depending on the Squad bonus, a good mass-destruction character might actually be better than using a bonus-earning character sometimes!
- Also from this point, every event has limited-time character bundles and gem sales. (yes, for real money). Any characters and accessories you'd already unlocked are replaced by a cache of Tokens equal to their original Token cost.
- 2-Year Celebration! (October 5 ~ October 14)

- Two years of Angry Birds Transformers, Who would have thought? Daily targets are worth premium points, and this time both Pigs and all blocks are worth 1 point apiece! Two swappable bots and an Energonicon, with point bonuses for picking the right ones. The big prize is Drift, who costs a whopping 7500 Tokens, but is free to play during the event. Yeah, you get nine days, but man. On top of that, you have the chance to unlock all of the prior event-only characters (but not Arcee, Airachnid, Prowl or Bluestreak, since they're also unlockable via Missions).
- Unfortunately, this Event also came with a major update that severely buffed the durability of all of the enemies in the game against direct attacks, making gameplay much, much harder (but was reverted later).
- Character Bundles were also available for sale (yes, for real money) during the course of the event, starting with Drift as part of a two-day deal, but soon moving on to the other past unlockables, one per day.
- Prime Time (October 18 ~ October 24)
- Using only the Prime birds (including Sentinel and Rodimus), go solo into a stage (no Energonicon either!) and pop the target Pigs for extra points. Squad bonuses still apply. You also get to try out Nemesis Prime Bird free, but not unlock him. The prizes are Epic Optimus and Rodimus and their accessories. The first several hours of the event were unplayable, as the game would crash after playing Heatwave's cutscene. Oops.
- Halloween and Nemesis Prime return! Two bots, one Energonicon, and a load of Halloween-themed stuff litters the stages, and every day one type of decor is worth extra points. Astrotrain and the Flying Pigs are decked out like witches too! Nemesis Prime, Skywarp and their accessories are the main prizes. There is also an assortment of Halloween-themed hats at 1000 Tokens a pop, every one giving a 10% Damage bonus to the wearer, and not restricted to a single character. While most characters can only wear one to three of the eight available hats (some can't wear any of them), buying one hat unlocks it for every viable character, which in some cases means you just got over a dozen Accessories in one shot! Now that's a deal!
- Time to Bludgeon & Brawl (November 3 ~ November 9)
- An all-Decepticon event, with a single character and Energonicon blasting the target color blocks each day. Prizes include regular Starscream, his Accessories (once/if unlocked), and the unique Accessories for Bludgeon and Brawl.
- Continuing to tempt players to part with their money, The game offered the "Special Event Bundle" during the course of the event. it contained 250 gems, Bludgeon's Sentinel accessory, and 2500 Tokens, all for the low price of $5.99.
- Thunderstruck (November 10 ~ November 16)
- An all-jet-Pig event, two swappable Pigs and no Energonicons. Any Seeker Pigs you have not unlocked are offered as free-to-play characters, so there's that at least! Destroy the key targets for extra points. Acid Storm is this Event's unlockable, as are the special Accessories for him, Thundercracker and Energon Starscream.
- The exact same Acid Storm Bundle available in the "Two-Year Celebration" event could be purchased during the course of this event, at $24.99, for those who may be really impatient or unable to play the Challenge Event for whatever reason.
- Happy Thanksgiving! (November 18 ~ November 27)

- Be thankful that you have to chance to unlock Sunstorm, accessories for most of the Energon-fueled characters (not Energon Soundwave and Starscream since they got prizes in prior events), and Pilgrim Hats. Only the "Energon" versions of characters are available to use, but Energonicon bonuses are back. Targets are primarily Pigs, including the Flying Pigs who've dressed up like cooked turkeys for the event.
- This event's "Special Event Bundle" contained a minimalist 150 gems, 10000 coins and 1000 tokens for $14.99. But from Black Friday, Dead End and several other character bundles were made available for sale, with new offers every 8 hours.
December 2016 ~ February 2017
From this point on, the point bonuses become... let's politely call it "complicated". Bonuses are ONLY given to characters who have been "Promoted", which you do by spending Sparks earned through Daily Challenges (or bought in Challenge Events). The higher their rank, the more bonus % they earn, and that bonus is granted any time they're used in an event. Moreover, if the character is part of the current Squad Bonus selection, their normal bonus will be doubled or tripled. Energonicon bonuses appear to be gone.
Also, Spark Bundles have joined the rotation of daily special event IAPs, ranging from $5.99 to $39.99, depending on the amount of gems and Spark offered.
- Soundwave Superior (November 30 ~ December 6)
- Take a single character and Energonicon into the level to destroy selected targets. Energon characters are the promoted squad throughout the entire event, replacing squad rotation every 4 hours. Accessories for all three Soundwaves are up for grabs, as are Ratchet and his Accessories.
- This event's "Special Event Bundle" was available after two days into the event. It contained 150 gems, 10000 coins, and 3500 Spark for $5.99. A nice promotion boost!
- Ratch'll Fixit (December 7 ~ December 13)
- Two characters and no Energonicons, with the Rescue Bots as the promoted squad. Shockwave is the unlockable, with Accessories for him, Bumblebee, and Heatwave.
- Just in case if you missed Ratchet in just the last event, the Ratchet Bundle was available during this event. Then the last two days offered a bigger Spark Bundle for $12.99.
- Happy Holidays! (December 15 - December 27)
- On the twelve days of Christmas, Rovio gives to you: the challenge of unlocking the new Wheeljack, and Ricochet, Skywarp, Windblade, and all their accessories. Ten different holiday hats are also available only with tokens! Use two characters and an Energonicon to smash holiday decorations each day for bonus points and promoted Cybertronians get a triple bonus!
The Christmas update with this event also brought a coal surprise: All explosive round accessories had been rendered 'un-explosive'; all they do now is make graphic cosmetic explosions. It'll be a while before it's fixed...
- As usual, You can buy gifts for yourself, starting with the Shockwave Bundle for one day, and then offers for character bundles and Spark bundles every two days.
- Happy New Year! (December 31, 2016 - January 2, 2017)
- The first event of 2017 literally starts off with a bang! Blast TNT, extra TNT, and extra large TNT for an explosion of bonus points and extra challenge tokens up to 1150! Since this a very short two-day event, only up to 100 tokens can be earned in the leaderboard. All for Sparks and one new accessory: Wheeljack's Panels at 2000 tokens.
- Wrecking Ball (January 5 - January 11)
- Time to send in the Wreckers! Use only two bots and smash colored blocks for bonus points. Prizes are Rodimus and accessories, and Ultra Magnus's accessories.
- End of the Road (January 2 - January 18)
- With only one bot, smash differently colored blocks to earn bonus points and unlock Drift and accessories. Bizarrely and surprisingly, Dead End was openly revealed as a prize at 7500 tokens after the event ended!
- At least the Drift Bundle was slightly cheaper than the first time. And then there was an event bundle that had a minimal 100 gems, 10000 coins, and 1000 tokens.
- Adrift (January 19 - January 24)
- Something's gone adrift... Drift is the main prize again! Apparently, he ended being the main prize in the last event when it should have been Dead End - Big oops.
- That mix-up aside, with one bot and an Energonicon, pop Piggies for bonus points, and the other prizes are Epic Optimus and accessories, and Ricochet's accessories.
Notes

- In almost every event, you earn 1 point for every Pig you pop, plus the larger point totals for bringing down Boss Pig or Unicron Pig, whether they are the choice target for the day or not.
- Challenge Events focused on new characters often allow you to play as those characters for free if you have not already unlocked them. While their Level will be set (typically Level 8) and they won't have any augmenting Accessories, there is the bonus that their health restores to full each time you take them into a Challenge level, sparing you some ad-watching time.
- Sadly, Tokens earned in one Event are lost at the end of the Token Exchange period following the Event, and will not carry over into the next one. Exient reps have said they are considering allowing players to "bank" Tokens between events, but no action has been taken on this yet.
