Kalistan

Kalistan is a nation-state on Earth, somewhere in Eastern Europe. It has the unfortunate tendency to be the base of evil organizations.

During WW2, Kalistan was part of the Axis powers. Sgt. Savage of the Allied forces suspected their elite I.R.O.N. Army had extra-terrestrial help, and investigated, only to go missing.

Decades later, Hawk of G.I. Joe would find Savage in suspended animation. Once he was defrosted, Savage led a group of Joes, the Screaming Eagles, in investigating Kalistan, whose ruler - one Count von Rani - was suspected to be involved with the ruthless terrorist organization S.K.A.R. IDW Generation 1 continuity

In 1943, Kalistan was occupied by or allied with Germany in WW2. Sgt. Savage and his Screaming Eagles took part in a battle there where the Axis forces used robotic soldiers.
