- Onyx is a corporation from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Garrison Blackrock heads Onyx, a cutting-edge think tank and electronics manufacturer that uses reverse-engineered Transformer technology to make people's life easier. Onyx has revolutionized the consumer electronics market with a bevy of tablets, personal computers, and other electronic gizmos.
... at least, that's what most people know about the company. Those in Blackrock's inner circle know that their eccentric founder has found more insidious applications for his marvelous technology: creating armies of man-made Transformers and even colluding with the Decepticons. And even less of them are aware that his business empire was built off the code of the vaunted Enigma of Combination–a supernatural artifact capable of warping the fabric of the universe itself.
Unlike many other companies, Onyx's products have not yet turned homicidal, so that's probably a good thing to put in their quarterly reports. And no the name has nothing to do with him.

During its war on Cobra, Onyx supplied weapons to G.I. Joe and continued to do so after the team was restarted. White Light
Onyx organized a press launch in Nikko, Japan detailing all sorts of cute technologies which Spike Witwicky interrupted and said Onyx was making weapons and making deals with Decepticons. Once he proclaimed that he was the good guy, Blackrock demanded Marissa Faireborn come to him. Signals, Calls, and Marches There was an Onyx vault in Wanmu, China where all sorts of Cybertronian treasures were held. Vs. While the vault was trashed by Devastator, Blackrock released the Onyx Interface code onto every Onyx tablet worldwide. ONoffON The end result of this was that Galvatron was able to use the code to turn the planet Earth itself into a gigantic version of the Enigma of Combination. It's Beginning To And Back Again
While being escorted by Roadblock and Scarlett, Blackrock brought up the fact that he gave them their guns to paint himself as a friend. Scarlett retorted that he was really a Cybertronian spy. How the company reacted to the news of the CEO being an alien spy was unknown. White Light Sovereign however continued to identify himself as the CEO. Enter The Shadow
