Gray Area

The Gray Area is a region of space from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Gray Area is border between the territories of the Galactic Council and the Solstar Order. Like most borders maintaining fragile peace between interstellar governments, it's a place of high tension and itchy trigger fingers.

IDW Generation 1 continuity

During the 19th century, the Cybertronian colony Caminus, cut off from the larger galaxy and ignorant of the hatred incurred by the ancestors, sent a ship carrying protoforms into the Gray Area. The ship was intercepted and shot down by a Galactic Council warship and crashed on an asteroid. Rom, on patrol in the Zone, witnessed the crash and demanded the Council explain itself. They simply warped away while Rom examined the crash site and rescued the only surviving protoform. Rom later returned to the zone to acquire a sample of energon from the wreckage to help the protoform's growth. Shining Armor issue 1
