James Edward "Jim" Carter (born August 19, 1948) is an English actor, whose film credits include Top Secret!, A Month in the Country, A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia, The Madness of King George, Richard III, Brassed Off, Shakespeare in Love, The Little Vampire, Ella Enchanted, The Thief Lord and The Golden Compass. On the television front, he is perhaps well known as the butler Mr. Charlie Carson in Downton Abbey.
