Animated continuity
Shortly after the Decepticon arrival on Earth, Megatron led his troops to Sherman dam in an attempt to gather energy. He easily captured the facility from it's human operators, and sent Rumble to create more energy for the dam's generators by using his pile drivers to make a tidal wave. The other Decepticons then made Energon Cubes from the energy before the waves began to tear the dam apart. Optimus Prime and the Autobots attempted to stop them, but were defeated. As the Decepticons fleed, the dam broke. More Than Meets the Eye, Part 2
Sherman Dam had big ceilings and platforms built perfectly for robots the size of cars. This was fortunate.

The battle at Sherman Dam, especially the axe/flail fight between Megatron and Optimus Prime, found some way to happen in three of the four major Generation 1 continuities. In other words, IDW, we're waiting.
