Optimus leaves the future in Perceptor's hands as Fortress Maximus arises.

Synopsis

As Trypticon continues to be held in place by the Primal Basilica's defenses, the super-Combiner-empowered Victorion teleports into Metroplex City, calling out Overlord. Unfortunately, the Basilica's electric beam shorts out and Trpyticon repowers, striking the unaware Victorion from behind. Reminded of the immediate threat the Titan poses, Victorion attacks with a series of flaming slices, but Trypticon grabs her sword in mid-swing and throws her aside.

Windblade is still being overwhelmed by the procedure linking her to Fortress Maximus, unable to hear Emissary's shouts. Within Maximus's mind, she establishes a weak Cityspeaker connection and begs him to help save Cybertron, but Maximus is skeptical, having vowed a life of peace. Worried for her survival, Emissary begins using the consoles to attempt to sever the connection himself, finally succeeding as the exhausted Windblade collapses. The two feel the ground begin to shake, believing Maximus has heard their pleas.

In the Chorus Chamber, Optimus Prime descends with the Matrix of Leadership in hand. However, Optimus reveals that the Matrix is not for him, but for Perceptor, handing the artifact to the scientist and asking him to follow. The two descend far beneath the Basilica, with Optimus explaining that he believes Trypticon is after the Matrix and that it must be protected. Knowing he stands no chance against Trypticon, Optimus instead orders Perceptor to take the Matrix and escape. Optimus opens a hidden exit from the Basilica and, with a final handshake, Perceptor runs off. Not far away, Victorion is pinned down by Trypticon's foot, unable to stand as the Titan repeatedly stomps her into the ground. The distorted voice of Starscream calls out from within Trypticon, mocking her as she is stomped into unconsciousness.

As the shaking intensifies, Windblade transforms and carries Emissary to a safe distance, dodging the falling debris and watching as Fortress Maximus finally transforms back to robot mode. With Windblade as his guide, Maximus propels himself into the air and follows them through the skies toward the battle.

Quotes

"Pray to whatever gods you hold, beast!"

Victorion takes the fight to Trypticon.

"I am to renounce my commitment to peace, and simply take the word of one of one to whom I have never before spoken?"

Fortress Maximus is unconvinced.

"I have to say, I'm glad the Matrix of Leadership is back where it belongs. I feel much better knowing you're in charge."
"I will not be keeping the Matrix, Perceptor."
"Excuse me?"
"You will be."

Perceptor is relieved, but Optimus Prime has other plans.

"Run, Perceptor. Before our enemies realize what has happened."
"And then...?"
"Only the leaders of Cybertron can decide then, my friend."

Optimus gives Perceptor his mission.

"I won't fail you. I mean...I won't fail Cybertron."

Perceptor says his parting words.

"No force of darkness...can defeat...Victorion!"

Victorion, moments before being defeated.

"Will you stop and let me fly?!"
"Sorry, force of habit."

Windblade discourages Emissary from touching her controls.

"Windblade, you might want to bank around."
"Why?"
"This is the good part."

Emissary and Windblade watch as Fortress Maximus stands tall.
