The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a particle accelerator located near Geneva, Switzerland. It went on line in 2009 and, as of this writing, hasn't caused the Apocalypse.

When it was realized that the Decepticons were trying to gather enough Energon to bring Megatron back from the dead, Optimus Prime speculated that the Large Hadron Collider might be able to produce sufficient power, but that was being heavily guarded by NEST and it would be impossible for a Decepticon to access it, no matter how well disguised. Sometime in 2010, Clench led the Decepticon Syndicate, augmented by Quintesson-supplied upgraded Sharkticons commanded by Sky-Byte, in an attack on the Collider, where they successfully overwhelmed the Autobot forces led by Spark. Not long after, the Decepticons used the Hadron Collider to bombard unstable forestonite with high energy particles, converting it from a sub-grade fuel into a substance that could upgrade Cybertronians. Later, the walls of the facility were destroyed by an Autobot counter-offensive, and this weaponised forestonite gas affected many of the combatants. Generation 2: Redux
