- Cave monsters are an alien species from the Cyberverse continuity family.
Cave monsters are insectoid aliens that live in caves on an uncharted alien planet. They're very enthuiastic about defending their food supply.
They are also adorable.

When signs of energon were detected by the Ark on an uncharted alien world, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Grimlock took a shuttle to the planet to investigate. At first they found no energon, but tentacled aliens found them, pulling Grimlock into a crevasse, where Bumblebee and Optimus soon joined him after a cave-in. They found numerous energon crystals in the cave...with the tentacles turning out to be grasping appendages of alien bugs, who aggressively attacked the Autobots in swarms, their defensive fire proving to have little to no effect. It was soon discovered that this was because the energon-based weaponry was only feeding the cave monsters, who were defending their food supply - the crystals of energon. Optimus ordered a retreat, refusing to endanger alien life regardless of the Autobots' need for the fuel. The Journey
