What a cocky son of a......

Daniel "Protoman" Arseneault is a writer and staff of the largest fan run Transformers convention in the world, TFcon[1]. He is known for his "take no crap" personality and insane Transformers knowledge. Him and Monzo party to TF Japanese source books. He is also gay for Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime.

Transformers Fandom History

The legendary Canadian fan Daniel "Protoman" Arseneault started his humble Transformers beginnings with his first trip to see some robot movie with his next door neighbour back in 1986, it all snowballed from there. There he was introduced to something new and beautiful to him and not to mention coming into contact with a character that would become dear to his heart and always brought up when the name "Protoman" is mentioned. As he grew older, he used his money working at BMW as a mechanic and semi-pro racing in Formula Ford and KART to fund his insane lust for all things Transformers. Considered one of the top representatives of the Canadian Transformers fandom, Daniel uses his social jock influence to bring others who normally see the hobby as a "nerdy thing" and brings light to them as if it was some kind of religion they were missing out on.

According to the Twitter page of Derrick J. Wyatt, some visual aspects of Rodimus Prime from Transformers Animated were based on Daniel, such as the popped collar which is a regular part of his attire.<ref>"@DerrickJWyatt Epic. Just epic. Now if only we can talk about that popped collar =D" "@Protomanx The popped collar inspired by Protoman?"</ref>

Character Designing

Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime

Daniel "Protoman" really, REALLY likes this character. He has the biggest Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime collection in the world. Rarities like the Rodimus Convoy 2010 Shampoo figure bottle and the 1988 Kabaya Rodimus Convoy Blaster Replica are some of his prized figures (And yeah.... some of that lucky draw stuff). What Hot Shot is to David Willis, Hot Rod is to Protoman..... cept even more extreme. He is constantly watching over and maintaining any of the Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime related wiki entries of any like:

G1 Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime G1 Awesome

Conventions

Prior to being staff of TFcon[[2]], Daniel use to compete at the event before deciding to focus on bigger fish.

At Botcon 2008, Daniel "Protoman" along with Team Canada got to the semifinals of the Faction Feud Trivia and shut out fellow brother site TFW2005's team [[3]]. He also taunted the vastly pro-American audience when he took the mic from Alvarez. After the Friday Panel, Protoman privately talked with Derrick J. Wyatt about insuring Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime get a good faithful representation when he will be used in Animated. Later on Jared Wade drew up a sketch of Animated Rodimus for him (7 months before it's public debut).

For the final years of Botcon and Fun Publications; he worked on the character concepts, tech specs and bios for Botcon 2016 as well as the Figure Subscription Service for 4.0 and 5.0

As it relates to TFcon[[4]] itself, Protoman is one of the head organizers of the convention. Daniel hosts multiple Transformers historical and educational panels, is the head judge of trivia competitions and Custom/Art contests

Fiction Cameos

Protoman has ended up in mild homage/cameos in some current TF related fiction by long time co-workers Alex Milne (art) and Josh Perez (colors).

Protoman in the mass media

Daniel appeared on This Morning Live on July 9th, 2007 which aired live all over the eastern Canada area on the Global TV network. Protoman talked about Transformers, his collection and how he got so "deep" into the hobby. When pictures of his house and collection were shown, off-camera news anchor Mike Lecouteur jaw dropped and later told Protoman about owning Omega Supreme as a child.

Protoman was featured in Montreal, Canada's largest newspaper, The Gazette on July 28th, 2007 in a quarter page article with photo and full interview about his huge collection of Transformers, his life and feelings about the new Transformers movie.

Featured in an extensive interview on G4's Electric Playground on August 3rd 2010, TFcon was the focus and Protoman was the guide for the show. He talked about the convention's history, what helped Transformers endure all those years and what he loves about the fans.[5]

Daniel/Protoman was featured on Storage Wars on February 20th 2015. The pickers (Cindy and Rick) of the show found a bag of 1984-1986 G1 Transformers and brought them to TFcon that was "conveniently" happening the same day. Further information from the recording process showed that the final price given (and aired) for the items was chosen by the producer to make sure the pickers got "2nd place" in cost vs. profit. Protoman originally gave an estimation of about $250-$300 "at most", which they would not happy with. [6]
