Facing off against the Functionist Universe Cybertron, the crew of the Lost Light devised a plan to stop the Functionist Council by creating twelve Matrixes and using them to overload Vector Sigma via the planet's hot spots. Thunderclash and Spinister were dispatched to Automica where Spinister engaged the Council's numerous forces and — after hearing a rousing speech from Rodimus — Thunderclash was able to open his Matrix.
