Mateo Chavez is a human from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

An aerospace developer by trade, Mateo Chavez means well, but the increasing number of Transformers on Earth and the unilateral actions of Optimus Prime has pushed him into taking more drastic actions.

When Jazz was sighted in Mexico, Mateo Chavez contacted his cousin and discovered that he had already joined a civil militia that had obtained a shipment of illegal Cybertronian and ex-EDC weaponry from black market arms dealers — unbeknownst to him, his suppliers were the Decepticons Frenzy and Rumble, using holomatter avatars to make a quick buck. Mateo and several other human insurgents used their new weaponry to ambush Jazz in the southern United States. Primeless, Part 1 Aileron and the Colonist Soldiers arrived, and Mateo was quickly taken out of the fight when Midnight Express used his massive alternate mode to run him off the road. While the other humans retreated, Mateo was pinned down and coerced into taking the Autobots to meet with his suppliers; the moment they arrived in the ghost town where they conducted business, Chavez beat it while the Transformers were occupied.
