- An Optimus experiencing visions from the Matrix following a near-death experience? Where has that been seen before?
- The red generic is referred to as "Red Five" and declares he is "standing by". This is a reference to the original Star Wars film, where Luke Skywalker went by the same callsign and said the same line during the attack run on the Death Star.
- "Red Five" is likewise a reference to the "redshirt" trope i.e. a generic character who is introduced only to die and thus build tension for the actual named characters. Said characters originated from Star Trek, where members of security wearing red were often beamed down alongside the main characters and usually horribly killed by whatever threat was present. Unlike most redshirts, Red Five survives his episode.
