Naming Scheme

This thing's name is written in Japanese as ハンマー (Hanmaa) in the How-To Manga, which is usually how the English word "Hammer" is transliterated. I don't mean to assign authorial intent, but there's a 99% chance that this thing is actually called Hammer. Where's the name Hanma come from and is it worth changing?
