The name or term "Megatron" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Megatron (disambiguation).
Megatron X is a Decepticon from the Cyberverse continuity family.

An alternate dimension version of Megatron, Megatron X was different in many ways. Actually having the nerve to kill his version of Optimus and downright steal his Matrix of Leadership, he did what his primary universe counterpart failed to do... but with more tyranny than the primary version ever used.

Eons ago, Megatron was a gladiatorial champion on Cybertron, besting numerous powerful opponents, including Devastator Maximus whose brain module he crushed. Trials While Megatron's raw strength served him well in the gladiatorial pits, it was his charisma which netted him a large following of admirers from all flocks of life. Megatron Is My Hero Among his followers was Optimus, a file clerk who began to author Megatron's speeches to his following. Maccadam's At a rally, Megatron dubbed his movement 'Decepticons', and swore to create a new Cybertron that would bring equal rights to all citizens. As his power base grew however, Megatron's personality took a darker turn, Megatron Is My Hero eventually staging a fatal attack on the High Council. Matrix of Leadership Following this Optimus, now Optimus Prime, confronted Megatron and made a plea for his old friend to stand down from his aggression. With neither willing to compromise, Megatron realized that Optimus would forever oppose him and fired a point-blank round from his fusion cannon, mortally wounding his once friend before he ripped the Matrix of Leadership from the short-lived Prime's chest. With the Matrix, Megatron declared a short-lived war on the Autobots wiping them out completely. Free of any resistance, he used the AllSpark to create a master race of perfectly obedient Decepticons before ridding himself of the "unneeded" Decepticons. When the Quintessons arrived, Megatron quickly defeated them using a laser snare before salvaging their multiverse technology for his own ends. The Other One

Megatron's universe was eventually visited by an alternate version of himself who managed to steal his Matrix of Leadership and flee back to his own universe, taking with him Astrotrain and the Insecticons. Megatron eventually managed to locate the universe where his Matrix was and sent his perfect troops as an advance guard. Silent Strike

After his troops had been defeated, Megatron teleported into the other universe and quickly defeated his counterpart and reclaimed his Matrix. Before he could re-insert into himself however, Bumblebee seized it and flew off. Though commending the effort, Megatron caught up to the scout at the Autobot/Decepticon border and reclaimed his prize before being confronted by Optimus who engaged him in a dual of the Matrices. Though initially caught off-guard, Megatron soon gained the advantage. Unbeknownst to Megatron however, his Matrix now held a psychic shard of Windblade, her mind scattered following her rescue of Croaton. Guided by the ghost of his universe's Optimus, Windblade sabotaged Megatron's Matrix, short-circuiting him. Crippled, Megatron was retrieved by Astrotrain who promised to take him into the multiverse and keep him trapped within him as revenge for his cruelty. The Other One

Notes

  • To differentiate him from the primary Megatron, X was almost half the height of Astrotrain and featured a prominently darker color scheme. He became the same size as the primary universe Megatron once his Matrix was destroyed.
