While King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table engaged in a desperate battle against the Saxons, Merlin enlisted the help of the Guardian Knights to aid Arthur. They gave Merlin a powerful staff and combined into a great dragon. Joining the battle, they aided Arthur and routed the Saxons. The Last Knight

After the fall of Rome in 476, many Roman provinces, including Britannia, continued to be invaded, in particular by Saxon mercenaries. One legend of Arthur contends that he was a Roman commander in Britannia fighting back against these mercenaries.
