2005 IDW continuity

V.E.N.O.M. began as a top-secret black-ops division within the anti-Transformer "Project Spectrum" initiative, a prospective team assembled from the most ruthless members of the M.A.S.K.. program, but, under Mayhem's auspices, quickly evolved into something more sinister—a network of operatrives loyal to him and him alone. M.A.S.K.: Revolution Indeed, Mayhem kept his true goals a secret, even from his prospective recruits, during the crisis spurred by Optimus Prime's annexation of Earth, The Divine Source of Liberty but after the battle against Baron Karza, the future agents of V.E.N.O.M. disappeared after Prime's space bridge exploded and took advantage of their presumed deaths to go underground. Valley Forge

The Deathstone Eventually, Miles Mayhem reconnected with his old friend Joe Colton, joined the new supervillain cabal known as the "Iron Ring," A Little Bit of Mayhem and took part in their failed invasion of Cybertron. First Strike issue 1 The other members of the team fell in with the newest iteration of Cobra, and lent their advanced technology to aid their new allies during a string of museum heists. When G.I. Joe intervened during their attack on the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the group unveiled their powerful new "King Cobra" mech, a fusion of V.E.N.O.M. and Cobra technology that nearly defeated the heroes, until Skywarp and Salvo successfully brought it down. Though the other members of Cobra escaped with their stolen artifacts, the three V.E.N.O.M. agents were left behind and taken into police custody. G.I. Joe: First Strike M.A.S.K.: First Strike
