Beast Riders are characters/devices from the Beast Machines and Universe portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The Beast Riders are transforming drones/vehicles, first used in the conquest of Cybertron prior to the events of Beast Machines. They later reappear after the events of said cartoon, on the newly reformatted Cybertron. Although scarcely seen in-story, it is implied that they were once mass-produced.

The Beast Rider technology was created by Megatron to search out the newly conquered Cybertron and round up any stray Transformers, and extract their sparks. They were created in a process similar to his other Vehicons, using the recycled shells of those who's sparks have already been captured. Mechatron is described as a "personalized transport," implying that it might be unique in its dragon-like appearance. In any case, Beast Riders, ironically, are wholly mechanical, and Mechatron's appearance is solely due to a side-effect of one of many of Megatron's failed attempt to remove his own beast mode. They are described as heavily armed, and sporting built-in spark extractors. Mechatron's Tech Spec Bio By the time Optimus Primal and his group of Maximals arrive on-planet however, they no longer appear to be in use, or altogether present, most likely due to Megatron's constant efforts to rid the planet of everything having anything to do with the biological.

The blueprints for this technology were however not discarded. Cheetor, frustrated by Optimus's religious zealotry and Megatron's relentless pursuits, discovered the necessary data to build his own personalized transport. The result was Che, a highly durable and fast chariot, stylized after Cheetor's own beast mode.

Although it is unknown if this applies to all Beast Rider transports, Che seems to operate through the "focus and balance of [its rider's] spark energy interface." Thus, it is more compatible with certain drivers then others, in this case, Cheetor is the one most capable of achieving a peak performance out of his chariot. Che's Tech Spec Bio

Notes

  • The Beast Riders and Deployers were developed by Hasbro Direct, a now-defunct extra branch of Hasbro that handled the "extra" parts of Hasbro's action figure lines, such as the 12-inch Star Wars figures (where the main branch made the 3 3/4-inch figures).
