"Generics"

This seems stupid to me. What we have here are several recognizable characters that most readers will conclude really are those characters. The author or whoever can't just go back and say "no, they actually aren't those characters because reasons". The story is the story and, by itself, those characters appear in it. "Cheetor" is clearly not Cheetor anymore, so that can stand, but the others? That is pretty clearly Mainframe and no amount of hand-waving is going to change that.
