Wedge is faced with a tough decision after mentor training day, while Wes is about to take his Griffin Rock First Responder exam.
Synopsis
Wedge emerges from his stasis pod extremely ready for Mentor Training Day. Heatwave appears via hologram and orders the recruits to report to their mentors, however Wedge runs into Cody and Wes on his way out. Wes is finally ready to take his first responder test and Cody says Chief Burns wants Wedge to take part. Wedge agrees before rushing off to class. Class turns out to be mountain climbing with Bumblebee. Despite Wedge falling off, Bumblebee catches him and they eventually make it to the top where Tough Luck Chuck is posing as a hiker. Bumblebee invites Wedge to a "rescue-athon" that night so they can compete and compare with the other students and mentors. Wedge enthusiastically agrees, but as he's aiding Chuck, quickly realizes it's the same time as Wes's first responder test. Unable to decide which to go to, he unwisely asks Chuck, whose verbal ticks result in Wedge picking the rescue-athon.
Wedge is practicing what he's going to tell Wes, when Wes himself rings. Whirl finds him after he gives Wes the news he can't make the test. The recruits are called to the rescue-athon but Wedge asks if Bumblebee can do the relay race solo as he needs to fulfill his promise to Wes. Wes, meanwhile, is trying to tackle an assault course on his own. The rope he's using to scale a wall comes loose, but fortunately Wedge is there in time to catch him. The pair rescue Dither and carry him to the finish line, setting a new course record. Wedge invites Wes to be Bumblebee's partner in the rescue-athon.

"Wedge, that was the point. We needed each other. This tether represents a promise; I have my end and you have yours. We trust each other to be where we need to be and it's not just an important lesson for rescues, it's an important lesson for life. Understand?"
- —Bumblebee summarizes the lesson of the episode.
"How do I choose? Ah, I know, I'll flip a coin. That's right, I don't have any change."
- —Wedge forgets he's a giant alien robot.
