Beast Wars Special Super Lifeform Transformers
Beast Wars Special Super Lifeform Transformers (ビーストウォーズ スペーシャル 超生命体トランスフォーマー) was a triple-feature theatrical movie released only in Japan. It was released in theaters on December 19, 1998.
Synopsis
The Beast Wars Special was composed of three individual segments.
Clash! Beast Warriors
The first segment, known as "Clash! Beast Warriors", was a "compilation film" made up entirely of clips from the first season of Beast Wars cut together with newly-recorded dialogue to form a complete, if disjoined narrative, that summarized the basic story of the show so far. After defeating the Predacons in a major battle, the Maximals attempt to return to Cybertron, but their efforts fail, and they then face destruction at the hands of a mysterious race of aliens, until Optimus Primal sacrifices his life to destroy their orbiting weapon.
Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!
Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger! was the second segment of the film. Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger was an original 45-minute film told through cel-animation using the cast from Beast Wars II. Galvatron uses an alien time machine to summon the alien superweapon Majin Zarak to Gaia, but Optimus Primal travels through time to join forces with Lio Convoy and defeat him.
Beast Wars Metals
The final segment was the episode "Bad Spark" (retitled "Beast Wars Metals") from the second season of Beast Wars. As this film was released nearly a year before any other episodes from the season, it opens with a short recap of the events that followed the end of season one, explaining how Primal survived his apparent death, and how the Beast Warriors became Transmetals. As it was released theatrically, the episode was not aired as part of the Beast Wars Metals TV show, with a new clip show, "Where Is the Banana?", taking its place in the broadcast run.
Notes
- As a promotional tie-in, any child brave enough to purchase a package of Beast Wars II Sausage and survive eating them was awarded with a magic seal card containing information on characters appearing in the movie as well as a coupon discounting the price of admission.
