Cryak was known as an adventurer, frequently embarking on expeditions to chart Cybertron's wilderness, her fierce love of the planet leaving an impact on a young Megatron. When Starscream was forged, Cryak was assigned as his mentor, bringing her ward on some of her expeditions. Cryak eventually suffered an accident that shattered her body. Rather than live on, Cryak saw it as her chance to finally go immersant. Cryak settled in the wastes beyond Iacon.
As Cryak's spark began leaving her body however, her peace was denied when a loose Voin ape stumbled on her resting place and, in a mad hunger, began gnawing on one of her cables, drawing her spark into its body. Managing to exert some control over the ape's body, Cryak began screaming for help but her cries only wound up scaring away any potential rescuers, creating a horror story of a disembodied spark. Spending over a megacycle in the organic's body, Cryak slowly went insane and began developing a deep hatred of organics, coming to hate her species for mimicking the organic form.
Shortly after the Decepticon takeover of Iacon, Runabout and Runamuck heard Cryak's call and reported them to Starscream. Finding the ape in the wastes, Starscream was drawn into the ape's body. After skimming her mentee's memories, Cryak presented herself to him and announced his intent to steal his body and use its weapons to return Cybertronians to nothing but their sparks. Though she was more adept at navigating her organic prison, she came up short next to Starscream's ruthlessness who escaped back to his frame. Though Starscream noted that he could put Cryak out of her misery, he sarcastically noted that the myth of the disembodied spark was part of Cybertron and he couldn't possibly deprive their culture of it, leaving his mentor to her prison.
