Pony
Ponies are a race of sapient ungulates, one of several sentient species who hail from the land of Equestria. Cooperative, social and largely gregarious in nature, they appear to have abandoned traditional herd-based grazing strategies in favor of a sedentary social structure akin to primitive human society--despite lacking opposable thumbs, or indeed any kind of digits, they have nevertheless reaped the benefits of a successful agricultural revolution, and heavily urbanized settlements like Manehattan appear to be the first step towards a fully industrialized civilization.
Repeated encounters with the Cybertronian race have revealed the existence of at least three separate pony morphs: in addition to "earth ponies" that have convergently evolved to resemble Earth equines, there also exist winged "pegasi" forms, as well as "unicorns" with magical abilities. A mysterious fourth group of "princess" ponies incorporate traits from all three subspecies: while little is known about them, both known representatives appear to hold an elevated rank in pony society. While the majority of ponies appear to be neotenous, with large heads, large eyes, and generally diminutive proportions, some "princess" forms like Cadance sport long legs and defined proportions. Their apparently matriarchal society, ruled by physiologically distinct "princesses", may indicate the presence of a gender-based caste system—perhaps a quasi-eusocial structure analogous to the terrestrial mole rat.
Confusingly, each pony appears to sport their own unique insignia. The prevalence of these "cutie marks" in pony culture suggests a near-infinite amount of individual factions.
