Fiction
Prime cartoon
Late in the war, both Autobots and Decepticons started to secret caches of Energon off-world, including on Earth. This resulted in a number of battles fought at the locations of these caches, with one of the largest in the Milky Way occurring at a particular location on Earth. The fallen warriors were ultimately buried by the survivors in a valley, and the knowledge of the carnage at the site was largely lost to time.
After returning from Cybertron with a plan to use Dark Energon to raise an army, Megatron sought out the battleground graveyard as a source for Cybertronians to reanimate. Optimus Prime had deduced this plan after discovering traces of Dark Energon transferred to a manipulator arm that was animated by the substance. The Autobot leader took Ratchet to the site to scout the area, arriving moments before Megatron. Boasting about his intentions, Megatron drove a shard of Dark Energon into the ground, raising the fallen Cybertronians as an army under Megatron's command. Darkness Rising, Part 3
Megatron set his zombie army against the two Autobots, who were appalled at his desecration of their ancestors. Almost overwhelmed by the horde, and suffering from exposure to the Dark Energon driving the undead, Optimus Prime and Ratchet sliced their way through the army as Megatron watched from a cliff-face above the graveyard battleground. With the army shredded and blasted to pieces, Megatron congratulated his enemies, then ominously boasted about it being merely a prelude to his actual plan, before transforming and flying off. Optimus Prime and Ratchet were left to survey the debris and ponder his threat. Darkness Rising, Part 4
Notes
- The actual location of the graveyard, let alone what country or even continent it's on, is never revealed. Optimus Prime and Ratchet bridge there directly, while Megatron flies there in his own very fast jet mode, during which Starscream and Soundwave have enough time to spy on Agent Fowler, capture him, and begin his "interrogation."
