The Energon axe is a weapon from the Generation One continuity family.
Prime's got an axe to grind...right into Megatron.

The Energon axe is the cool, kick-ass weapon used by Optimus Prime whenever he can't seem to find his ion blaster. He retracts his hand, and then the axe replaces it. For all its awesomeness, he only seemed to use it once in the original series: when and Megatron were fighting fighting on a particular dam. Despite that, it was very memorable ability, so much so that one of the Optimus Prime toys was remodeled so its hand could be replaced with the axe.
