What's needed: Really needs expansion

The Great Upgrade, as referenced by Optimus Primal while visiting the ruins of Iacon, was "the great upgrade from Autobot to Maximal". Sparkwar Pt. II: The Search This would likely have also been the point at which certain Decepticons, such as Ravage, were turned into Predacons. The upgrade emphasized fuel efficiency from reduced size, similar to the Micromasters.

Fiction

Unlike their Autobot and Decepticon predecessors, Maximals and Predacons who underwent the upgrade had onboard computers, which required use of activation codes to transform from one mode to the other. In their smaller forms, a couple upgraded Cybertronians were similar in size to Earth mammals such as cheetahs and tigers, able to transform into nearly indistinguishable animals without visible use of size changing. Beast Wars (Part 1) Fallen Comrades At this scale, even relatively large Transformers were dwarfed by Autobots like Optimus Prime. The Agenda (Part III)
