A dialogue script for an episode, as opposed to a regular script, contains only spoken dialogue. Further, it includes only that dialogue which was actually taped at the voice recording session. Scene descriptions, stage directions, etc., are omitted, as well as dialogue which was cut before being recorded. The dialogue scripts can still provide some interesting information, however: sometimes lines of dialogue were cut after being recorded and therefore never appeared in the final episode. Additionally, dialogue scripts can provide canonical spellings for character names that fans would otherwise have to guess at.

Dialogue scripts for the Generation 1 cartoon have been included in some of the UK DVD releases from Metrodome.

Traditionally, dialogue scripts were transcribed and arranged using the scene numbers from first draft storyboards. However, starting with Dinobot Island, Part 1 and continuing through the rest of the series, dialogue scripts were arranged using the numbered lines of dialogue on a finalised full script. This enabled the recording session to go ahead independently, instead of waiting for Marvel Productions to complete the storyboards.
