Outback

"but in his previous appearances Outback was a regular soldier."

I'm not sure that's 100% accurate. There's a risk of drifting to fanon but while Outback is known to the Wreckers and Magnus in the "OP on Cybertron" arc he's clearly something of an outsider; while he describes himself as an Autobot (though was that, like, default for Cybertronians at the time?) he's pointedly drawn without an Autobrand across all of the issues. He's certainly not Regular Autobot Soldier #4. Also, in "Underworld" for a cadet he gets some qrizzled dialogue (he's the one who knows about the rite of passage being old hat and who lectured the trio on courage and foolhardiness).
