The proton rifle is an Autobot weapon and a relatively common alternate mode for Autobot Targetmasters.

Lightspeed carried a proton rifle with a magnetic sight that locked on to iron-bearing targets. Lightspeed's Universe profile Silencer was bio-engineered to convert to a noiseless, recoilless, high-powered proton rifle and was accurate up to six miles in this mode. Landfill's Universe profile

- According to his packaging bio, Landfill's Targetmaster partner Silencer transforms into a a noiseless, recoil-less proton rifle that can be powered up by combining with Flintlock's stress pistol mode.
- Mainframe (Action Master, 1990)
- Mainframe's Action Master partner Push-Button combines with his vibro pulverizer to form a proton rifle.

- Japanese ID number: C-311
- A redeco of Fortress Maximus, Grand Maximus came with a redeco of Fort Max's photon rifle in red called a proton master rifle which is presumably like a regular proton rifle, but bigger.
Notes
- Although Lightspeed's Marvel Universe profile calls his robot mode weapon a proton rifle, his instructions, packaging bio, and Dreamwave More than Meets the Eye profile all call it a light-burst gun.
