Starscream has plans!
Synopsis
[edit]A scheming Starscream confides in Vortex that he should be leader, and so has gathered an elite team to help overthrow Megatron. He sways Vortex to his side by offering him a position as one of these elites and the helicopter is happy to help. He is even more pleased when he gets a snazzy new paintjob and rolls out with the three other Combaticons. Onslaught declares himself as the Combaticon leader and says to leave strategy to him. Brawl boasts that he'll handle the destroying. Swindle proudly notes they can leave the sale of any recovered blocks to him. Vortex announces that he will protect the base no matter what-ex, only to be shouted down by the others and taken along to attack the Autobots.
Finding it bothersome to fight separately, the team combines into Bruticus and attacks. Despite almost squashing a human, Vortex's worry about the base and pleading to return eventually convince the other Combaticons to withdraw.
Shortly thereafter, Megatron asks Starscream where his 'new army' is while ominously cracking his knuckles and advancing. A concerned Starscream contacts the Combaticons to find out why they haven't arrived, only for the team to happily inform him they're guarding the base together.

Notes
[edit]Transformers references
[edit]- The idea of Starscream forming the Combaticons for the purpose of overthrowing Megatron hails from "Starscream's Brigade".
- Among the bricks put on sale by Swindle is Brawl's helmet, a reference to Generation 1 Swindle selling off part of Brawl in "B.O.T.".
- Windblade's inclusion in this issue makes it the first time that a Kreon version of a character predates the first appearance of the original character; Windblade herself would not debut in the IDW comics for another four months.
