Nintendo 3DS

The Nintendo 3DS is a handheld gaming system released in 2011 developed by Nintendo, and the successor to the Nintendo DS. While it was more powerful than (and backwards compatible with) its predecessor; carried forward the extended feature set of the DSi; and had its own online eShop distribution platform for selling retail games, smaller digital-only titles, and re-releases of classic games; the system's real selling point was (as its name suggests) its 3D capabilities, able to display images in stereoscopic 3D without the need for players to wear special glasses...at least until the release of its Nintendo 2DS variant, which stripped this feature out entirely. Other variants included the New Nintendo 3DS, which gave the systems additional processing power, and larger-screened XL versions of all of the above.
The 3DS was Nintendo's final dedicated handheld system, and was ultimately succeeded by the hybrid Nintendo Switch console in 2017.
