Lazorbeak informs Air Hammer that just cause someone has a similar name, doesn't mean they're the same person.

Synopsis

[edit]

At the bar, Air Hammer asks Lazorbeak if he's the original Laserbeak; Lazorbeak tells him that he's not, and that Laserbeak turns into a mechanical bird. Air Hammer asks the question again with Buzz Saw and Buzzsaw, and again Lazorbeak tells him no, pointing out the space in the former's name. Air Hammer asks about all the various Ravage look-a-likes, and Lazorbeak admits he's not sure; he doesn't know if anybody is. Garboyl butts in on the conversation, claiming that he was the original Garboil, but Lazorbeak tells Air Hammer to ignore him, as Garboyl's not really all there. Air Hammer asks if anybody with the same name is the same guy, and as Soundwave shouts "eject" and vomits next to them, Lazorbeak remarks that he sure hopes not.

Notes

Continuity notes

[edit]
  • This strip takes place in the same universe as strip #16. We saw Lazorbeak, Laserbeak, and Buzzsaw last time.

Transformers references

[edit]
  • Air Hammer is a Maximal Fuzor from the Beast Wars toyline.
  • The joke here is obviously aimed at fiction in the 21st century that likes to claim that Beast Wars characters with the same name as Generation 1 characters are the same people. We have:
    • Lazorbeak and Laserbeak.
    • Buzzsaw and Buzz Saw; Buzz Saw was a Predacon bee from the first year of the Beast Wars toyline.
    • Tripredacus Agent, Shadow Panther, Panther, and Ravage. Tripredacus Agent was the name under which Ravage's Transmetal 2 toy was sold. Shadow Panther, a Japanese-exclusive redeco of Cheetor and originally a separate character, was also sold under this name when sold online by Hasbro. Panther was one of the toys from the original Beast Wars McDonald's promotion, and was repurposed as Ravage in the Beast Wars Metals manga.
    • Garboyl and Garboil. Garboyl is a new creation here, paired against e-HOBBY exclusive Garboil. He's repurposed from the Wal-Mart exclusive Age of Extinction Strafe toy that, for reasons only know to Hasbro, was a random redeco of Beast Wars Terrorsaur.
    • Soundwave and Soundwave. Soundwave was one of the Beast Wars Mutants sold under the Mutant Beast Wars subline. A longstanding misinterpretation of his Beast Wars Sourcebook profile led fans to believe that said profile implied Beast Wars Soundwave to be the same person as Generation 1 Soundwave, when that was actually not the case (but the misunderstanding persisted long enough to inspire the joke in this comic).
