A star athlete in the races turned motivational speaker famous for his epigrams such as "Speed is a state of mind—learn to accelerate", Photon of Ibex ended up serving on the Vis Vitalis under the legendary Autobot hero Thunderclash.

2005 IDW continuity
Having been invited to a "pre-wake" aboard the Vis Vitalis to honour Thunderclash before they died, Getaway and Nightbeat chased the panicking Decepticon Ravage into the ship's morgue. There they discovered Photon's corpse, but though he recognised him from their motivational speaking, Nightbeat didn't consider it that unusual to find a body in a morgue.
