Long ago, when the Cybertronian civil war began to drain Cybertron of its available resources, Sentinel Prime departed on a secret mission to find the Autobots a new home. Years later, two American astronauts discovered Sentinel's ship, the Ark, in ruins on the dark side of Earth's moon. Inside, they found only the dead bodies of its crew. Years later still, the Autobots, now under the leadership of Optimus Prime, came to call Earth their new home. Though the Decepticons had followed them to the planet, the Autobots had been successful so far in stoppind Megatron's evils plans. While the Autobots accompanied the human organization NEST on a mission to Russia, Optimus uncovered a piece of the Ark, recognizing it immediately for what it was. Then, Shockwave and his pet Driller burst into the scene, intent on stealing the piece of technology that Optimus had found. Optimus manages to fend him off, but not before Shockwave snatches the piece of the Ark.
Back in America, Optimus angrily confronts the head of national intelligence over their failure to inform him about the discovery of the Ark. He then heads to the moon, accompanied by a couple of other Autobots, and finds Sentinel's inert body within. Optimus retrieves the body of his old friend, and returns him to life with the power of the Matrix of Leadership. Optimus brings Sentinel up to speed, and the old Autobot joins Optimus's team in their mission to defend the Earth!
