Sentinel Prime betrays the Autobots!
Synopsis
[edit]
Sam is working at his new job, delivering mail, when he is attacked by Laserbeak, who had disguised himself as a photocopier. Sam manages to escape the Decepticon, and rushes out to warn Optimus Prime that the Decepticons have returned. Now at NEST headquarters, Sam witnesses Optimus return life to Sentinel Prime, the Autobots' leader before Optimus, who has recently been found on the moon. With a burst of energy from the Matrix of Leadership, Sentinel reactivates, but is confused and attacks Optimus. Sentinel soon recognizes his old friend, however, and calms down. Later, Skids, Mudflap and Ironhide are keeping watch over Sentinel Prime, acting as bodyguards to protect him against Decepticon attacks. Suddenly, Sentinel transformed and attacked the Autobots, much to their confusion. It is revealed that Sentinel betrayed the Autobots to the Decepticons long ago!
Optimus fights Sentinel in Washington, D.C. in order to prevent the former Autobot to activate the Space Bridge. Optimus fails, and Decepticons begin to swarm the city through the portal that Sentinel has created. Bumblebee defends Sam from the Decepticons that emerge from the space bridge, chasing them off. All the while, Megatron laughs evilly as he watches the battle unfold from the Lincoln Monument. The battle between the two factions increases in scope, with more combatants from both sides joining in. But in the midst of combat, Megatron becomes frightened of the possibility that Sentinel may takes over as leader of the Decepticons. He thus teams up with Optimus, and the two of them defeat Sentinel Prime. Cybertron, looming in the sky as it traversed the space bridge, is sent back to its proper place in the cosmos, and Earth is once more safe.

Notes
[edit]- The book's opening page features a pop-up where Laserbeak is initially hidden in his photocopier mode, and is revealed in his robot mode, attacking the office he's in, when the page is unfolded. However, since the rest of the illustration on the page shows the office already trashed even before the pop-up is folded-out, it makes it look as though the office has already been trashed by weapon's fire before Laserbeak began his attack...
- NEST uses several high-tech looking combat vehicles, including twin-VTOL helicopters and "h-tanks."
