Rise of the Beasts film

Voice actor: David Sobolov (English), Diego Valenzuela (Latin-American Spanish), Vanderlan Mendes (Brazilian Portuguese)

With the revelation that the Transwarp Key is hidden on Earth, Battletrap, along with fellow Terrorcons Scourge and Nightbird, make planetfall in the ocean near New York, proceeding to make their way to Ellis Island. After the Key is located, found to be in the possession of two humans, the Autobots arrive and engage the Terrorcons. Battletrap squares off against Bumblebee, Arcee and Mirage. He uses his chain-flail to devastating effect in the battle, using it to hurl a stone pillar and a car at the Autobots. Once the humans who were in possession of the Key exit the museum, Battletrap informs Scourge that he has eyes on their prize. After Scourge subdues Optimus Prime, Battletrap forcefully puts his foot down on the Prime’s back, holding him down and looking on while Scourge executes Bumblebee. He then, alongside Scourge and Nightbird, prepares to finish off the remaining Autobots, before they are attacked from above by none other than Airazor. Satisfied that they have already acquired the Key, Scourge orders the Terrorcons to fall back.

Shortly after the battle, Battletrap witnesses Scourge communicate with Unicron, as well as the latter’s wrath when it is discovered that the Terrorcons have only retrieved half of the Transwarp Key.

Battletrap and the Terrorcons then make their way to Peru to locate the other half of the Key. Standing on top of a roof in the city that the Key is suspected to be in, Battletrap looks on while Scourge and Nightbird discuss their next move. Once the Autobots began to mobilize and leave the city in pursuit of the Key, Battletrap and the other Terrorcons gave chase. They end up in the rural mountains of Peru. Behind Battletrap, Arcee and Wheeljack appear, opening fire on the orange Terrorcon. Battletrap uses his flail to latch onto Nightbird and spin himself around while still driving, proceeding to launch a barrage of missiles at the pair of Autobots, who narrowly manage to avoid them. Battletrap, turning back around, then grabs hold of Wheeljack with his tow truck mechanism, throwing him and Arcee off the road and rendering them unable to pursue him and the Terrorcons further. Shortly after, when Scourge is talking to Optimus across a broken bridge, Battletrap and Nightbird arrive to give him support, but Prime and the Autobots leave before an all-out battle can occur.

After Scourge manages to acquire the other half of the Transwarp Key, Battletrap and Nightbird travel with him to a nearby volcano, where they erect a fortress using the now-united Key and begin the process of opening a portal so that Unicron, their master, can devour Earth. Soon, however, the Autobots and Maximals arrive to oppose them. Scourge orders his Terrorcon minions to engage them, which Battletrap eagerly does, running towards the incoming group and firing his gun at them. When the two groups meet, Battletrap leaps into the air to engage Optimus Primal. Later on in the battle, Battletrap fires a barrage of bullets at Wheeljack, who takes cover behind a large rock with Optimus Prime. Swinging his flail, Battletrap insists that someone “give him a real fight.” His wishes are answered almost immediately when Optimus Primal catches his flail. Pulling it taut, Optimus Prime rushes in and slices through Battletrap’s arm, which Primal then pulls off. Screaming in pain, Battletrap’s left leg is then severed by Prime, sending him tumbling to the ground. Just as Prime is about to deliver the final blow, Primal pounces on Battletrap and smashes his head in with his own flail, killing the menacing Terrorcon. Rise of the Beasts

Released as part of the "Autobots Unite" subline for the Rise of the Beasts toyline, this Battletrap is an orange redeco of the Bumblebee Energon Igniters Ironhide, transforms from a robot into a 1980's pickup with giant exhaust stacks. As a redeco of a Power Plus series figure, Battletrap is compatible with energon cores, one of which is included. Inserting a core in his vehicle mode deploys weapons on the side of the truck.
Bizarrely, this toy's package art depicts a digitally recolored Ironhide instead of Battletrap's own image!

Notes

  • Battletrap's alt-mode was first revealed via Steven Caple Jr.'s Instagram account on 6 October 2021, along with the other two senior Terrorcons, Scourge and Nightbird.
  • Despite being a Terrorcon, his promo artwork (featured at the top of this page), features a Decepticon insignia on his forehead, which is most noticeable on the box of his Studio Series toy. In the movie proper it was replaced with a Terrorcon logo.
