Alone in the Academy with a Triceratops, Hoist must overcome his fear of dinosaurs and calm the savage beast.
Synopsis
[edit]Whirl is excited because Grimlock is taking the recruits on a trip to Wayward Island, now called Dino Island as Hoist reminds her. He also reveals he's not going, as he is still getting over his phobia of dinosaurs and has Heatwave's permission to stay behind. The others try unsuccessfully to talk him into coming.
Grimlock and the other recruits GroundBridge onto Dino Island and begin admiring the dinosaurs roaming around. They're approached by a Triceratops, which Whirl thinks will be fine as it's a herbivore, only for it to charge through the GroundBridge, damaging the controls and disabling it. Hoist has meanwhile started up a sim of Dino Island to try and test the theory that exposing himself to his fear will help, but it just results in him fleeing the sim after encountering a Tyrannosaurus rex. Spying the Triceratops, he assumes it's somehow escaped the sim until Grimlock contacts him and reveals the truth. The Triceratops busts down the door and starts chasing him. Back on the island, the group puzzles over how to get back to Hoist without the GroundBridge until Wedge hits on the idea of improvising water skis for Grimlock so Whirl can tow him back.
Hoist, fleeing from the Triceratops, hits a dead end but is able to escape through the ventilation system. He reaches the living area, where Tough Luck Chuck prompts him to come up with a plan to deal with the dinosaur. He uses Chuck's remote control to have the drone lasso the Triceratops. Though the remote control breaks, Hoist leads the dino to Hero Hall, where he sticks it in the Dino Island sim. The others contact him and get him to examine the dinosaur's foot — it turns out to have a sharp rock stuck between its toes. Once Hoist removes the rock, the creature finally calms down and becomes much friendlier. The others arrive back and observe that Hoist seems to finally be over his fear, until he's startled by the simulated Tyrannosaurus, which Hot Shot promptly decides to race.

[edit]- Wayward Island appeared frequently in Rescue Bots, and was established to have a colony of dinosaurs living beneath it in "Land Before Prime". The dinos now seem to have migrated above ground, prompting the island to be renamed.

[edit]- The title is a play on that of the 1988 film Die Hard. The episode also homages several of the themes from the movie and includes the phrase "Yippee Ki-Yay", a recurring catchphrase of protagonist John McClane.
